Rarely upon the first listen of an album do I feel as though it's destined to be a classic. Such is the case for the Blip Festival '08 Live double CD set, brought to us by 2 Player Productions and 8bit Peoples. When considering the talent of the musicians documented for this release, I was surprised that it wasn't titled The Monsters of Chip. The soaring serenades of Unicorn Dream attack, groove-heavy guitar riffs of Animal Style, and the bass laden beats of Bitshifter provide the listener with a sort of comprehensive knowledge that 'all is good and well' within the chiptune community. In addition to some stellar tracks, the album is bundled in a beautifully designed digipak (by Minusbaby), with highly detailed liner notes and a short essay by Nathaniel Adams. As you may have noticed by checking out Episode 4 of STFUAJPGM, live chip music performances can shed a different light on a musician's studio work. One might find it serendipitous when considering the release date of this album. One might also find it a lucky occurence that the fine folks at 2 Player Productions have decided to send over a few copies of the album so that we can give them away.
So, how do you get your hands on a free copy? By answering a simple question: Why do you love chiptune music? If you send us your response in roughly 200 words, you could be a winner. Not a writer? Send a picture. Maybe a photograph, or better yet: some pixel art. 1st Prize: A copy of the Blipfest '08 double CD, A copy of the Blipfest '06 DVD, and an additional chiptune CD. 2nd Prize: A copy of the Blipfest '08 double CD, and an additional chiptune CD. 3rd Prize: A copy of the Blipfest '08 double CD. In addition to the above prizes, the winning entries will be included in a future episode of STFUAJPGM.
You can send your entry to stfuajpgm >at< stfuajpgm >dot< com . Just be sure to include the phrase “I LOVE CHIPTUNE BECAUSE...” in the subject of your email. Contest ends September 15th, 2009. |
