This week's theme: Travel Tunes

Act 1:

John woke up that morning feeling what he considered to be fine. His week was long, so it seemed essential to savor every second of his passing weekend. He began his morning routine by sitting down at his computer. No new e-mails. No new Friend Requests. No responses to any of his posts. It was hours later when he finally realized that he had spent his entire day pacing back and forth within the confines of his 200 square foot apartment.

Act 2:

As the boredom began to sink in, John's spirits began to lower. He had tried all of the things that would normally make him feel amused. He reluctantly decided that it was time to get out of the house. 15 minutes after leaving his apartment, he sat in his car while heading out of town. He looked around at the other people stuck in their cars during the rush hour traffic. He wondered if they were headed somewhere to get away from their monotonous lives. He hoped not. It would be a shame.

Act 3:

John had finally escaped. The scenery was beautiful. The trees along the roadside waved back and forth in unison. It almost seemed as though they were dancing to some sort of song. The wind blew his hair back. Through his sunglasses, he saw birds floating amidst the clouds. They seemed more than content.

Act 4:

John had driven for hours when he decided that he needed a break. He pulled over at dusk, to watch the blinding sun put itself to rest. He sat on the hood of his car wondering if he should ever return to the place he called home. He wondered if anybody back there would notice if he were to pick up and leave. He also wondered if anybody back there would be willing to run away with him.

Act 5:

He felt a jerking sensation that snapped him out of a daze. Almost like the falling sensation he had the previous night, waking from a nightmare. He looked at the van next to him. It was filled with people younger than he. Their clothing was wildly colored, and seemed almost too small to comfortably fit bodies. Strange music blasted from the stereo of their minivan. He observed with fascination. Moments passed when the van full of people began to leave. John had a decision to make. Return to his apartment, or follow those who had signaled at him to follow. He looked both ways, and made a decision that was highly abnormal for a tie-wearing office worker.
